| Been doing some work on Shawns Z lately. Once he got the back from his builder in Florida I noticed way too many things wrong with the car. He came over about a month ago for the 1st session of fixes. I had to redo almost all the vacuum hoses on the car. Nothing was ran right. Recircs were plumbed into the IC piping where the wastegate hoses normally go, vacuum cap missing here, wrong hose connected there. Just a big mess. Neither the washer tank or coolant overflow tank was installed either so I got a set locally and we put those in. And we installed a manual boost controller since is stock controllers were removed. Also his ICs were not bolted down so we tackled that. While fixing those we found the pipes were full of oil. Uh oh. Shawn mentioned ha had been getting clouds of smoke after boosting. Took the car out for a drive and sure enough he had a case of the bad turbo seals. So fast forward to early last week. Shawn ordered some new CHRA's for his stockers and wanted to do a few other things while the engine was out. So out came the engine. I started on the turbos while Shawn worked on cleaning all the oil out of his IC piping and IC's. Patient is ready

Simple CHRA swap. Before:
After the new CHRA was installed and a little cleaning in the parts washer. He also got new gaskets and oil lines.

I noticed this when I was installing the new oil line on the drivers side. This is not a Z motor mount but it is Nissan. It's actually about 3/8" taller than the oem mount. I took it off and swapped it with a used stocker I had. Also see the new oil line. Don't forget to move over the stock plug or you'll have a nice mess on start up...or so I have heard :)

Hmm, what's missing here? Found this while pulling the engine.
Used up my last NA bracket I had :(

His old EFI harness was hacked together pretty bad and some connectors were actually siliconed into place because they were broken. Which meant breaking them even more just to get them off. So I talked him into putting in a new harness. I also had to swap the heater core hoses as they were flip-flopped with one another.
A/C fun. He said his AC never really worked. He had it check out and all the freon had leaked out already since getting the car back. Once the engine was pulled we could see the leak dye all over. I thought it was probably just the oring from the area most of the dye was at. But once apart the orings were ok. So incase the compressor itself was leaking he had his builder send him a rebuilt compressor. But once it got here we saw it was no good either. It deff had been sitting and used, wasn't a fresh rebuild. Also the rotating assembly was bent and would not spin freely. So we grabbed an extra stock one I had laying around and threw it in with some new orings. Hopefully it's good.
He had thought his rear main was leaking already as well, but we found it was actually the oil pan half moon seal. This was a used engine and that part was never replaced. So it was hard and brittle. So I tore that apart, placed it with a new pan seal, new bracket seal and new rear main seal. Then I smeared some extra RTV around the lower opening just to help prevent future leaking. Looks ugly but it works. His pilot bushing was also chipped and had a part missing so I replaced that as well.
We also replaced and resealed his valve cover gaskets and plenum gasket. Threw it back together and I dropped it back in last week. All ready to go and he was able to make the mtn cruise last weekend.
